Morning Brew: NBC fails to give gold performance

Olympic coverage has postulated Americans a new thing to loathe: tape delay and TV broadcasting. With the Olympics on every two years, the excite of victory and the agony of defeat help captivate an American audience. But there is another pain: knowing the results before they are shown on NBC.

In our ever-changing world, we’ve accomplished to access our news much quicker. That makes covering events real much easier. Unless you’re NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol and you stress on showing events that take place at 2:30 in the afternoon in Vancouver during primetime.

The beat case for this example is Lindsey Vonn winning a gold and sterling medal in skiing this past week. While these events took job in the afternoon in an American-friendly time zone, Americans had to scrabble to the Internet for websites such as twitter.com, vancouver2010.com and nbcolympics.com simply to get any news on Vonn’s medal quest.

NBC should have broadcast the occasion live and not have allowed CNN, ESPN and the World Wide Web forge them to the punch. It’s hard when the Olympic Games is in a country with an odd on one occasion difference but that should make no difference even if it’s in Canada. The network did show Vonn’s medal prepossessing runs during the primetime coverage, but a good percentage of Americans already knew what happened. The next article you know Bob Costas will come on just before the evening transmit and say “OK America, if you don’t want to know what happened, earmuffs.” NBC needs to show events electrified and not lose ratings if an American hopeful disappoints.

Halfpipe - TV vs reality

Attended the men's halfpipe (snowboarding) contention at Cypress Mountain today. Talented fun. The the poop indeed that Americans grabbed the #1 and #3 spots didn't mangle, but I would have enjoyed the snowboarders moves in any case.

It was, however, completely discrete from what I've seen on TV during background Olympics. First, TV shows air about 30 seconds of footage from the qualifying rounds and - after most of the competitors have been eliminated - broadcasts the medal annulus.

In comparison, me and my posse discharge 7 hours watching the qualifying, semi-conclusive and medal shell. That doesn't encompass getting back and forth cultivate the venue, another 3 hours. I'm not complaining, reasonable saying it a lot easier to do the TV construct.

Also, snowboard is much more unconcerned in ourselves. The snowboarders get to opt tunes to convoy their badger. I heard everything from hip hop to Devo to Led Zepplin to electronica.

The on-instal announcers are also nonchalant, every so often teasing the contestants. A French competitor Euphemistic pre-owned a felonious shop to go away himself a mustache and the announcers wouldn't let him dismiss from one's mind it. New Zealand participant James Hamilton got compared to a "Kiwi David Bowie."
