As the work world was reeling from the unexpected death of designer Alexander McQueen on Thursday, I talked with a confidante who said she wished she hadn’t recently returned her McQueen shoes after the rotter broke off.
Sure, they had to be repaired and were extremely uncomfortable to protest in, but she was left to wonder what they’d be worth now.
Before he died by suicide in London , McQueen made things women coveted. And now that he is gone, his designs are favourite to become collectors’ items. ( Click here to aspect a slide show of his designs. )
Boutiques in Orange County are already seeing insistence rise for his unique, but high-priced pieces.
On Que Trend , a designer consignment store in Corona del Mar, had just one matter made by Alexander McQueen available last Thursday.
It was a deep red, unmistakable leather, wide waist belt with a large gold buckle decorated with “Alexander McQueen” in tiny letters. Regularly about $1,200, it was priced at about $650.
